Reiki healing and Palliative care Principles of Reiki What is Reiki?Reiki pronounced (“ray – key”) comes from the Japanese “Rei” meaning Universal and “ Ki” life energy that is a form of natural healing.Reiki empowers, heals and brings the body back into balance as discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1900’s. Reiki works on many levels: -Physical – Mental- Emotional - Spiritual. The purpose of Reiki is to supply the body with additional energy, which it can use for healing itself. Reiki has the ability to bring balance and harmony back into everyday lives. After a treatment people often feel refreshed, energised, relaxed and more at peace with themselves. Reiki is suitable for healthy and sick people of all ages. It will not interfere with other treatments and can complement conventional and natural therapies. Reiki healers do not diagnose, prescribe or give medical advice. Reiki is not a substitute for medical treatments or drugs, but can enhance their effectiveness. There are three levels (degrees) of study in traditional Reiki.
Back to top Reiki TreatmentThis is a very simple process. The receiver lies on a couch or sits on a chair and relaxes. It is not necessary to remove any clothing. The therapist gently lays their hands on the body in a sequence of positions directing the energy into the body of the receiver. Reiki instantly flows into the receiver with each treatment. The Reiki therapist is used as a channel to conduct the Universal Life Energy. No energy is lost or drained from the therapist, who is instantly strengthened and charged. The treatment lasts for about one hour, the hand positions are held in place for several minutes. Back to top Combining Reiki with Aromatherapy treatmentsSince training in Reiki I now complete Aromatherapy treatments with Reiki. Inner peace, calm and balance are restored to mind, body and spirit.Being attuned (you receive these attunements that are transmissions of energy that are received depending on which Reiki degree you are training in). Reiki the Universal Life Energy automatically contributes and enhances hands-on treatment as soon as there is physical contact. The more frequently Reiki is used the stronger the energy flows inside you. Back to top What Does Reiki Do?
Back to top Reiki Healing and Palliative CareDuring the last two years (2003-2004) my work has moved in the direction of hospice work and palliative care. During my work I have discovered that Reiki healing can be a wonderful support to those faced with life threatening illnesses. I have discovered from personal experience that clients undergoing a course of chemotherapy have found reiki healing very comforting at such a difficult phase in their lives.
